    Default Ammo and humidity

So I only now thought about it.

We don't have central air. In the one room where a case of ammo has sat hidden all summer long. The humidity got high in this room for days on end. Does anyone think it could have effected the ammo? I hope not. It's not a sealed box. Next summer, there will be an A/C in this room to keep everything cool.

send it to me and i'll shoot it all up finding out.

seriously, it should be fine. ammo goes to crap under extreme heat or when doused in oil. i have fired ammo that was stored in antarctic conditions for years, and ammo that was stored in central american jungle for decades. all went off fine, because it was well made. then there is the crap like the pakistani POF, which uses old wool rugs for propellent.

    It wont affect ammo.

I've seen ammo submerged for years under water that fired.

For the most part ammo is sealed. Yeah, there is a microscopic area between case and the primer and bullet where moisture could possibly get in, but it really isn't an issue.

Over the past few months I used up all of my "old" ammo (some was 15 yrs old) that has been sitting in my basement. The basement was humid enough to be noticable. I didn't have any problems.

In addition I have primers and powder that was stored in the basment for almost as long... no issues.

I wouldn't have any concerns if I were you. If it makes you feel better, buy some ammo cans and small dessicant pouches for storage.

I fired some ammo this summer that was stored in a wooden gun cabinet with a glass front in a bedroom with no air or dehumidifer. That ammo was the same box I was hunting with in 1975.

Go shoot yours and don't worry.

Is there any signs of excessive corrosion on the exterior of the ammunition? Remember that during WWII ammo got exposed to very high humidity, temperatures, and even salt water environment and was fine. Some even got shipped back to the US after the war and sold a surplus. Again quite serviceable.

POF? also, is that like the khyber pass stuff that uses old chopped up nitrocellulose film for the propellant? lol
