Remington 141 Gamemaster disassembly...
I have my grandfathers old gamemaster rifle chambered in 35 Remington, and I'd like to refinish it. I haven't had any luck finding a manual for this rifle.
Can anyone direct me to one, or give me a quick rundown on how to strip this gun down?

Re: Remington 141 Gamemaster disassembly...
I have one in .30 Rem. It has been a long time, but if yours has a thumb screw, lossen it and pull it to the side (it is captive) as far as it will go. Push the stock and trigger group straight down, with the other hand holding the reciever. The bolt should then slide out the back, if you want to do that. The bolt is tricky to put back in, sort of shake the reciever and slide the bolt at the same time. That's as far as I have ever taken it.
In a fit of stupidity, I got rid of the bok "Trouble Shooting Your Rifle and Shotgun" by J. B. Wood. The 141 and many others were covered in detail.
If you get in a jam, let my know. I'll give you a hand if you need it.
Are you sure you really want to refinish it??I vote the second first

Re: Remington 141 Gamemaster disassembly...
thanks for the reply.
I'm not 100% sold on refinishing it yet. It does have alot of character how it is now.
I might just clean & lube it and see how it shoots. It hasn't been shot in probably 30 years or so. Still seems to function ok though.

The bluing on mine is worn on the edges. It looks like... like it is 75 years old! I'll never refinish it. It's only original once.
I vote the second first

It was your grandfather's rifle, don't refinish it. Shoot it, hunt with it and enjoy it for what it is. It won't be the same refinished, as the history will be some what erased. Can you post a picture of it?

Thanks for the pictures. It looks perfect just the way it is. Come November, put on an old Woolrich, a pair of Bean boots and get out in the woods and drift back in time.

Yeah that looks like it's in good shape. I wouldn't refinish it.
