How about the best of both worlds, a SIG 1911?

Both pistols are about the same size (if both full size), so carry shouldn't matter. Both have the same mag cap. Both can be used in battle. Both look like a pistol should look (and feel, as well). IMO, it boils down to which variant of Sig P220 you are talking about. If it is a Super Match or a Match Elite, then it is a no brainer, in my book. Has to be the Sig.

Keep in mind that the 220 can be had in a SAO configuration if you prefer. Personally my vote would be for the 220, as I've never owned a Sig that wasn't 100% reliable and dead nuts accurate.

Failed to mention to get the optional SRT if the get one of these model Sigs. It makes a huge difference if you are a speed shooting junkie.

Oh yes, the SRT is a definite, most 220 I see on the SIG site don't offer a SRT standard but it can be installed

To me, it would depend on what I would be using the gun for. I bought a Sig P-220 Carry ....cause I planned on carrying it on occasion. I would use a 5 inch 1911 for home defense and carry a 4.25 inch 1911 ccw. I can shoot my 220 carry very accurately as well as my 4.25 inch DW V-Bob so I can carry both pretty easily. Both of the guns you mention are sweet! I guess I would get the 220 and lay away the Sprinfield!..LOL..

    winner winner chicken dinner!

I'll also point out that the MC Operator is a very specific gun vs. the P220 is a generic. Is there a specific model 220?

Tough one. Personally, I would think anyone who could afford an mc operator, you could afford to own both...no matter what flavor P220. But, the question posed would be an easy decision...get the 1911.
