Great OC experience yesterday involving a police officer
So, I was out walking my dog yesterday with my 1911 on my hip. I live in Wernersville, PA in Berks County. As I was walking down the street, a Lower Heidelberg police officer pulled up along side me and put his window down. Of course I was thinking to myself "oh no, here we go", so I prepared myself for the worst. He then surprised the hell out of me and said "Afternoon sir, that's a gorgeous dog you have there". I said "thank you officer.", thoroughly confused at this point. He then said "Nice piece you have there too, we don't see too many people carrying openly around here. I'm a big 1911 guy myself, it's a shame I can't carry one on the job! Stay safe. Have a good evening." I told him to do the same, and he was on his way. It was interesting, to say the least, but a positive experience nonetheless!

It is great to have a "good" experiance OCing. It beats a "No one noticed" day all to heck and back. Guess it goes to show that not all LEO are idiots. And some have good taste too.

That's refreshing.
He sounds like he was being tactful by starting out complimenting your dog to make a point to comment on your 1911. Very observant as well. A law enforcement professional.

Good story, nice to hear about cops that do know the law instead of the ones that don't for a change.

Re: Great OC experience yesterday involving a police officer
Another interesting point to make about this encounter: I'm a young guy, I'm only 24. I was wearing camo cargo shorts and a black t-shirt, so I didn't exactly look like a fine upstanding businessman or anything, and this officer had to be between 40-50. It was nice to see someone of his generation not looking down on someone my age, and respecting the fact that I was simply excercising my rights.
