Re: Close range (less than 50 yards) AR optics?
Yeah, I'm sure they're worth every penny to someone who does the type of shooting that is going to subject their optic to abuse. I'm not one of those shooters. I'm going to need two optics to set the gun up the way I'd like to, so spending a grand on ONE of them is out of the question.

Re: Close range (less than 50 yards) AR optics?
At the risk of sounding like an argumentative a$$, mounting the rifle from low ready to "sights on target" is much more critical than an "almost" parallax free reflex optic. IOW, a consistent cheekweld is the key to getting fast hits at CQB distances. Coming up from "low ready" to "on target" is very similar to having a smooth drawstroke with a handgun.
Here is Lycan's mention of cheekweld in his reply although he also frames it around ring height which is certainly part of the overall equation.
"when you slam your head into the stock the optic is ready to go and you can see. This sucks with collapseable stocks and is one reason I don't use them...."

Re: Close range (less than 50 yards) AR optics?
For the Scope check out a Meopta Meostar K Dot http://www.swfa.com/pc-9143-1134-meo...fle-scope.aspx
True 1x4 power. Gives you the ability to have a 1x red dot and a 4x scope in the same unit. This is a very very popular scope in the 3 Gun world.
If you want a secondary optic then use a Burris Fast Dot or Doctor mounted at the 45 degree angle.
And get a VTac Handguard.Friends don't let friends buy Taurus's
