rimless revolver
Been reading about Charter Arms rimless revolver. Comes in 45 ACP. 40 and 9 mm. Dose'nt use any moon clips, implements a spring loaded extractor that snaps under the rim for extraction. Also states that the 9 mm (9x19) will chamber a ,380 (9x17). The 9x17 is approx. .020 smaller rim diameter than the 9x19 which is a tapered case, the .380 is a straight case. could mean they will supply another cylinder for the .380 round like a Ruger 22/22mag. Don't see how a .380 round could be fired in a 9MM chamber safely. What do you guys think? would be convenient to have a 5 shot, 10 oz. revolver that would handle the same ammo as service arm.

Re: rimless revolver
I would REALLY want to see that setup in action before I bought. Any new mechanism, especially 1st gen, is bound to have bugs. Especially from a company in the "value" engineering grade of manufacturing.
Neat idea thou. Not knocking it. Moon clips are easily bent if not carried in a secure container, not best for self defense. If you get it, tell me how it holds up after 500 rounds without cleaning.

Re: rimless revolver
Heres a decent article on it. Sounds interesting. I might look into the 9mm. Cheaper to shoot than 38. Not a bad price either.

Re: rimless revolver
One thing to figure in is that the 380 is such a low power/pressure cartridge and the brass is rather thin and weak. More than likely the brass will expand to seal the chamber, however you'll have some seriously out of shape casings afterwards that will be weakened from the distortion. The mouth of the 380acp will only have to expand from pressure about .007 to .008 inches to seal the chamber.
If the gun can handle the 9mm with it's 36K or so pressures, the low pressures of the 380 wont do anything to the gun even if the chamber doesn't seal - you'll just gets some blow-by venting and dirty chambers, which will likely result in stuck cases.
Bulk 9mm is relatively cheap, on average 380 tends to be more expensive compared to bulk 9mm... ...kinda makes it pointless to even shoot 380.
Just my opinion, but if you want interchangeable ammo - stick with rimmed straight wall cases.

Re: rimless revolver
Sorry, I didn't catch that first post or I would have refrained from the repetition. I like your answer to the .380 in 9MM chamber. right about 9MM being less costly than .380's, But it would be pratice with considerable less recoil as long as you are'nt going to reload those blowed out ,380 cases.

Re: rimless revolver
Looks neat. Even a spring loaded ball bearing would work. I am still nervous thou, tight spaces and small springs make me nervous. (think series 80 safety on a colt 1911) If this design proves itself out, I think Charter Arms can claim its first engineering breakthrough.
If you get this, I want to here how well it works. I always liked the J frame S&W in 9mm, but moon clips are crap in a carry gun. One little bend in the clip and you might have a big issue in a self defense situation.
Keep me updated, I will probably start getting asked about this at work soon by customers.
Thanks.

Re: rimless revolver
I really like the idea of rimless revolvers, and I wish Charter arms the best with these. I really wish someone would pick up on the Medusa idea... and of course charge less than $8XX. for it, but it's almost fair for 1 gun that can fire a bunch of rounds.
If you're not familar with the Cadco (Phillips&Rodgers, Inc.) Medusa, here's some reading.

I hope this is not taken as hijacking, as that was not my intention.
