Default InSights General Defensive Rifle in Harrisburg (Sept.) anyone?

    Hey guys,
I am going to be taking InSights 2-day general rifle class in Lewisberry this September.

    http://www.insightstraining.com/view...asp?courseID=9

Has anybody taken this course? Anyone planning on taking it? I would love to hear a review or two!

I am pretty proficient with my handgun, but really need to improve my rifle skills in conjunction. I will be shooting my Arsenal AK!

Hope to hear some good things!

    Kb!Bob,

Back in the 90s, our instructors group held an instructors update with Greg Hamilton teaching an 8hr patrol rifle class. If it is Greg himself that is teaching the class, he is a very good instructor. He is professional and knowledgeable.

My department's range master also took an AR class with him and felt that Greg was squared away and knew his stuff.

My wife took a Defensive Pistol class with Greg in WA and felt that he was squared away.

I believe that you will enjoy the class and find it worthwhile.

I'm glad to hear that, thanks for the info! My other question is this: I found this AAR of the class (which sounds very pomising)

    http://www.m4carbine.net/archive/index.php/t-33588.html

and noticed that there does not seem to be any AK's in the group, various AR's only. Do trainers "frown" on AK users in these types of classes, or is the AR simply more popular? I was hoping to use my Arsenal AK and the website doesn't say anything about carbine limitations. I don't neccesarily care if they "frown" on me as I'm paying them, but I do want the best instruction with a person familiar with the platform. Thoughts??

I was think of taking that class myself.
I looked at the course description and saw as a prerequiste you have to have completion of general defensive handgun training.

    "Training Prerequisites
Completion of General Defensive Handgun or equivalent and Concealed Weapons Permit or documentation of good character".

You say you are pretty proficient with your handgun, and I feel the same way with mine, but is that enough of a prerequisite to enroll?

If you want an AK class why not train with Larry Vickers at PMSC in June? LAV knows his stuff.

I have taken a couple handgun classes but, frankly, I bet thats just a legal pre-req they ae requied to put in writing. I bet that if you enrolled you wouldnt hear a peep about it.

I would LOVE to (and will one day) train with LAV. Basically, this year it boils down to scheduling. My wife is a nurse and works overnight weekeds, 3 out of 4 weekends a month. We have 2 little kids so I am pretty much Daddy Daycare most weekends. This class just happened to be on an "off" weekend and close in proximity. When time allows, I will jump at a dedicated LAV AK/pistol class!

I took the GDR class a few years ago with my AK. John Holschen taught mine. I suspect he'll be out to teach this one, too. In my opinion, he's one of the best instructors in the country right now.
