Default Brown Bear/Silver Bear? Steel Cased Russian Ammo?

Anybody use this stuff? SGAmmo has the Silver Bear 9mm for $90 for 500 rounds, and the Brown for like $85. I'd be shooting it through an XD. Is the steel cased stuff that hard on the gun? Would I be better off spending a couple extra bucks on UMC or WWB and not having to worry about wear? I just like to shoot, a lot. And I need to keep my costs down. I'm sure this ammo will be fairly dirty, but that doesn't bother me. What would bother me is doing unnecesary damage to my gun. Thanks guys.

I shoot Silver Bear .308 147 gr. Soft Point in my RRA LAR-8. Works well for me. I will be purchasing more.

    Be safe (and combat accurate).

I assumed as much. I don't mind some extra cleaning for a price break though.

Watch closely and try to avoid any ammo that is steel jacketed, as it will wear a barrel very quickly. I am not sure if the Bear stuff is steel jacketed, but quite a bit of the Wolf rifle ammo was. Often times the steel jacket will be "copper washed" which plates it with a few microns of copper, which is very misleading.

    As always, caveat emptor.

Never heard of steel jacketed copper washed.

I've heard of steel CASED copper washed but who cares about steel cases?

I have heard of bi-metal jackets though. Bi-metal jackets are fine unless your gun sucks. I can fire bi-metal jacketed rounds out of my AK all day long without a problem for example. Bi-metal jacket means the jacket is made from a mixture of copper and soft steel. Remember that not all steel is created equal, and barrels are supposed to be made of very hard steel whereas any steel in or on bullets are soft (unless it's specifically AP).

occasionally I shoot the Russian ammo. they are REALLY cheap, shoots fine, dirty and smells funny. our local range forbids them due to "possibility of causing ricochet and bad for your barrel".
there are always argument over if they are good or bad for your gun, i would say, either try them out yourself, or just spend couple more bucks to get regular ammo...
