Killed a copperhead
I killed a copperhead this past weekend. I saw a lot of them growing up in northern NJ but this is the first one I've seen in 6 years out here.
Are they common here in northern Lackawanna County?

Re: Killed a copperhead
Fixed it for you.
I don't know how common they are in LackCo, but all snakes are protected in PA so killing one and posting it on an open forum without having (even if not stated) a darn good reason that will stand up to scrutiny by a WCO/LEO is discouraged. Yes, even venomous species.
On second thought, maybe you better leave your MIL out of it if you want your story to be credible.Last edited by str8shooter; May 5th, 2010 at 03:42 PM. Reason: the text editor is playing games with my head.

Re: Killed a copperhead
I guess I should explain: I ran over the copperhead with my John Deere L-120 and turned him into snake sushi.

Almost, but a little short of a cigar...
Collecting or killing snakes
All snakes in Pennsylvania are protected by Fish and Boat Commission regulations. Species that are not listed as Endangered, Threatened, or Candidate may be captured or possessed under specific daily and possession limits (Consult the Summary of Fishing Regulations and Laws). Endangered or Threatened species such as Kirtland's snake, eastern massasauga and rough green snake cannot be caught, killed, possessed, imported to, or exported from Pennsylvania. The timber rattlesnake is protected under additional regulations and permits regarding seasons and possession limits. Specific questions about current regulations can be directed to any of the Commission's Regional Law Enforcement Offices or the Herpetology and Endangered Species Coordinator.

Re: Killed a copperhead
Every time some city slicker asks me why I had to kill some animal pest, I gladly offer to trap them and drop them off at 3rd and Main in their town.
