    Default Pistol to Carbine Conversion

Anyone have any experience or knowledge with these carbine kits. Interested in buying on for my glock 19. Are these conversions traceable? Do they do ballistic testing since they are not an actual firearm? Thanks for any input http://www.stellarrigs.com/stellarkn...sion_Kits.html

Why worry if they are traceable, unless you're planning on doing something illegal? I'm not touching that with a 10 foot pole.

Your best bet is to ask your local police department. You should grab your pistol with you in case they have a question and so you can pull it out if you need it as a visual aid when explaining how the conversion works. They'll have you squared away in no time. If you don't have a holster yet place the handgun in the front of your pants, if you're not sure how check any move on the propper way.

So long as the barrel is 16" long from muzzle to breechface, and overall length is 26" or more - it is completely legal to convert a pistol to a carbine/rifle and back again.

You may NOT convert an original rifle receiver into a handgun without applying for a SBR tax stamp. You may not add shoulder stock to a pistol with a barrel less than 16", because it becomes a SBR.

I have a mec - tec conversion for a Glock 20. Since the barrel would be differen't than the origional firearm then the bullet groove pattern would also change. This is not a violation of the law as there is nothing to stop someone from changing out the barrel on a handgun also.

If you put a mec - tec conversion on your glock it is still consitered a handgun as the receiver S/N is still the same. To transfer it you would still have to follow handgun transfer laws.

I would think for the $300 plus you'd spend on the conversion you could buy a SKS or something similar. Who knows how dependable or acurate that kit is.

    Hawk,
Jim Crews www.marksmans.com used the 1911 version in a carbine class. It ran like a swiss clock.
