    Default 1911 conversion kit question

Has anyone here successfully put a .22 conversion kit on a 1911 Colt Commander or similarly sized frame?

Please note: I would prefer actual experience over conjecture. I can conjecture all by myself.

    Thanks.

No, but I'd recommend nothing but a Marvel kit.

Thanks Jeff. I talked to the people at Marvel this morning already, and they are testing a threaded barrel for me right now.

I put my marvel kit on exactly the gun you mention... Worked perfectly and ran like a top! plus maybe 30 seconds to switch out and back.

    I need a 1911 frame so I can build a dedicated 22 version!

Stevie, we are neighbors! I am pretty much at the extreme edge of the Kutztown metroplex, and for all I know you may be at the other, but still in all, we are neighbors.

I just got off the phone with Marvel a few minutes ago. There is a box on its way with some goodies for me. I was able to take advantage of their current special offer, a Unit 1 barrel in a Unit 2, threaded for a can. This means there will be even more shooting in the barnyard now...

Yes, it actually came just a couple of days after I ordered it. It shoots very nicely, although it seems to only want to shoot CCI right now. That was the case with my SIG for the first few hundred rounds, and then it smoothed out some to where it would cycle with other brands. But shooting .22 out of my Colt and shooting it quietly is a real joy, since I can stay at home and not worry too much about the neighbors.

I don't have enough rounds through it to give anyone a real substantial evaluation yet, but between my initial impressions and Jeff's endorsement, I would buy it again in a heartbeat. This is my third .22 conversion kit, and all three have really enhanced my practice.

Mine liked high velocity rounds for the first few hundred and then ate everything....even Wolf, which is relatively low powered. I swapped the sights out for some Dawson fiber optics and shoot clay pigeons on the berm at 20 yards.
