Does anyone know if Erie County or PA in general requires that a CCW Class be completed as part of the appilcation process? If yes, does this have to happen prior to filling out the appilcation?

PA has a LTCF (License to Carry Firearms) not a CCW

You do NOT have to conceal once getting it

Search the Forum for LTCF and/or License to Carry Firearms. Particularly the Erie subforums for specifics to your county.

There is no CCW in PA. It is a LTCF. And no, there is no class needed. Fill out the application and pass the background check.

Are you asking as an Ohio resident? Or as someone who will be moving to Erie County, PA?

An out of state resident can get a PA License to Carry from any county, provided that they have a similar license/permit from their home state...if that state does issue them.

That said, some PA counties, by their own rules, will not issue a non resident license.
Centre County PA will and is the best choice for a non resident...all done thru the mail.

There is no training requirement in PA to acquire a LTCF. ( License To Carry a Firearm). Any county that would require it is going against state law and could be subject to legal difficulties.

Hi, I am an Ohio resident and I got my PA license from Centre county through the mail. It was so easy and I travel to western PA alot to visit family and go hunting. (I love Slippery Rock, my home away from home!)

Anyhow, my question is that I lost the small square paper license that Centre county sent me in the mail. I don't know if I need to carry that license with me anytime I am in PA or if carrying that license is mandatory if I have a gun with me while in PA.

How would I go about getting a replacement license for the one I misplaced?

There's no procedure written into the law for this situation, but the best advice I've heard is to call up your issuing authority (Centre County Sheriff) and see about getting a replacement.

A copy is good to have in case you get legally stopped by a police officer and asked to produce it, because of this PA law: 18 Pa.C.S. § 6122

(a) General rule.--When carrying a firearm concealed on or about one's person or in a vehicle, an individual licensed to carry a firearm shall, upon lawful demand of a law enforcement officer, produce the license for inspection. Failure to produce such license either at the time of arrest or at the preliminary hearing shall create a rebuttable presumption of nonlicensure.

Just take note, this is NOT a duty to inform law, PA has no such law.

Anyone else in the same situation you can call the Centre County sheriff's dept. at 814-355-6803 Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
