    Default Hunting question

I've never gone hunting although I have passed the hunter safety class.

My quick question is would 7.62x54r be a round which is good for hunting deer and how would it fair on groundhogs?

    7MM
    30-06
    270
    35 rem
    30 cal

    7.62
    223
    .300 win mag

    all about preferance ability, cost,
    each tool has a purpose

Some for use on more than one type of game
Some for use only on big game, some small game
    Long range
    Brush guns

    Round and gun matter

I prefer to be able to shoot 200 yards or less, not damage meat too much, clean kill. Deer

    Bear no idea
    Elk never been
    Caribou - not yet
    Moose not yet

I bet a nice 7mm rem mag would do the trick in us and Africa.

A very good round for deer and it will massacre a groundhog.

Just remember that you must use an all lead bullet or a bullet designed to expand - which would rule out the cheap mil-surp stuff.

Yep, jacketed soft points, or jacketed hollow points are needed... Full metal jacket, while a great movie, is not a good round for hunting and will get you in trouble if you run into a PGC officer in the field...
