    Default SAR-1 Saved From Bubba

    sar1.jpg

I stumbled on a bubbafied SAR-1 at Kinsey's in Elizabethtown the other day and the price was right so I brought it home to nurse back to health.

As always, I was in such a rush to get to work on it, I neglected to take before pictures. It had a beat to hell ATI Fiberforce thumbhole stock, a scuffed wood upper handguard that had been painted black, and a weird ak-74 looking black rubber lower handguard (with no heatshield). It needed a good cleaning but was mechanically sound.

I polished the bolt carrier and put on a Romanian stock set that I'd picked up from www.centerfiresystems.com and now we have a respectable looking gun.

It is of course still ugly, as any Romanian AK should be in my opinion. It looks like a junkyard dog. You don't want to pet it, and you're kind of afraid of what you might catch from it, or that it will become spontaneously violent at any moment.

I can't help it, there's just something great about an ugly as sin AK.

how is it ugly, if beauty is in the eye of beholder?

and to think the sar series was looked down on as being "junk".....they're head and shoulders above the wasr's that replaced them.
it's only metal, we can out think it....

The SAR series is/was the Top of the Line STAMPED AK Variant ever to be imported to our country.
