    Default Cor-Bon Pow'R Ball Ammo

Has anyone had any experience with this ammo ? I'm interested in: 1) feed reliabilty and 2) Performance

If so what calibers have you tried ?

Mike Shovel is the area rep for CorBon and does quite a bit of testing. John Farnam advocates it use but if i remember his posts, he uses Corbon DPX.

He's a good guy. He brought a S&W 500 and about 300 rounds for a Glocktalk shoot (just for our pleasure) we had about 3 years ago, Gave quite a few range bags out and will answer any questions.

I use it in .45acp, .40 S&W, 9mm, and .380 for my carry guns. While any gun can jam, I have never had an ammo related problem with any of these. Have not shot anything alive with it, but it does some nasty work on inanimate objects.

I have a box of 40 S&W 135gr. I have carried with them. No real experience with them. I do like the no clog expansion. I also have 155Gr DPX, which is my preferred carry load.

Powerball ammo tends to be on the light side. I've seen it shed its jacket and underpenetrate in gelatin tests. Frankly, i'd rather have an unexpanded projectile with adequate penetration than a semi-fragmented one without. As for modern hollowpoints, even through thick winter clothing, they do pretty well.

I carry PowRBall in 9mm and 38. The 9mm feeds perfectly, although I've never had any feeding issues with any JHP either so take that FWIW. I've never done any legitimate testing on the penetration but like a previous poster said I've done some smile inducing damge on some inanimate objects. I've also seen a demonstration where powrball 45 blew out a stack of phone books which was impressive to watch. Thats my two cents. Good Luck.

It is my preferred carry ammo in my XD .40 Sub Compact. Never had a problem with it. It seems to be the most accurate at the range for me and in that gun compared to other self defense rounds.

    MarcS,

Thanks, I think my problem is more reliability with defense ammo / hollow points. I've got good guns, Sigs & Glocks, but have still had some feed issues from time to time. I guess I'm looking for near perfection and am not happy where I am today. Maybe I need to pull out my old SP101.
