Camping/Hiking Recommendations for my Bachelor's Party!
Bachelor's Party is going to be Memorial Day Weekend.
My two best friends and I are going to spend an evening or two hiking/camping in PA.
I am in South NJ presently, but have been in PA for the last 8 years. My LTCF is valid.
So I look forward to carrying, and hiking, and talking with my guys. No alcohol will be present at any point.
We are allowed to carry in state parks now, right? No intended shooting, but with coyotes and the like, I enjoy the privledge. I would like them to be able to Open-Carry, which they can both legally do (unless there is a Park law I don't know about).
So, I need
1) Recommended locations to hike, and camp. I should have a Honda Element by then so using it for partial shelter is possible.
2) Legal advice. Can you open carry a long arm (PS-90) or other long arm if it is slung (on a sling, not being actively carried, or 'brandished'). What are the Park laws, if applicable?
Any other caveats I should think about. They are both familiar with firearms, they will be loaded but rounds will NOT be chambered just in case (drops, falls, etc).

Loyalsock trail. Stay at World's end state park or wilderness camping is permitted. Beautiful views. fair amount of elevation changes without killing you.

Thanks Scott. I'll add it to the list (it's the first one!) =)
Any input on LTCF, or Open-Carry?
I am really looking to do a 'Spirit Walk', kind of like a midnight hike with my guys and nature. =)Last edited by phoenix_iii; April 1st, 2010 at 09:40 PM.

Only cc in Pa state parks. Also you have a Pa ltcf not a ccw.

I recommend hiking on down to Philly and camping out at Club Risque (or other such venue)

Trying to make the final decision (State Forest/State Park)... Midnight hike with my best friends... =)
Eastern PA preferred, starting point around Ben Franklin Bridge (for travel reference)

The Black Forest trail is about 45mi long. It's very rugged but very senic. To hike the whole trail plan on about 4 days.
It is located in the north central part of the state.

If you want to get out and away from everything, hit the Appalachian trail. A good overnight trip with plenty of rewards is a hike to the Pinnacle in Berks Co. You can either park in Port Clinton and hike up the trail right off Rte 61 or you can go through Port Clinton and take the fire road to the top of the mountain and then hike out the old fire road from there. Taking the fire road cuts out Pulpit Rock though. If I remember correctly, it is like 10 miles from the bridge on 61 to the Pinnacle. The fire road is a direct shot out the top of mountain (i.e. easier). We did it one time on mountain bikes. Whichever way you go, your goal is the Pinnacle. It is a rock outcrop facing sort of south east. On a clear day, you can see buildings in Allentown which is over 20 miles away. There are caves up there that you can go exploring in. Oh and this is like 5 minutes north of Cabelas. PM me if u want more info.
