Monroeville Barnes & Noble Attack ???
I received the below message from our Risk Manager where I work, I didn't find anything on the local newsite, but thought I'd pass it along to everyone here. Our Risk Manager is very good about looking in to this type of stuff and has many contacts in the LEO community, so I normally believe what he says. Definitely one reason why I carry.
Hello everyone,
I was recently forwarded an email that detailed an event alleged to have occurred in or near the Monroeville Barnes and Noble Bookstore near the Monroeville Mall. Although local media are not covering the story nor are local police going out of their way to warn the public, I was able to confirm that it did occur, although details as to the extent of the attack vary.
In summary, a husband and wife were at the bookstore and briefly went their separate ways. While separated, the wife was attacked by a group of at least two, perhaps more girls. The attack was described as a gang initiation. While accounts vary, one account indicates one of her eyes was injured. Another indicates that her husband was restrained and prevented from interfering with the attack.
What I am certain of is the increase in gang related activity in and around Pittsburgh over the past few years. Given that certainty, I wanted to advise all staff of this event and remind you to always be cautious when traveling (whether on work or personal business), be aware of your surroundings (both building and people) and have a exit route identified. Ultimately, trust your instincts. If a situation feels wrong, assume it is and leave the area immediately.Last edited by Medic005; March 31st, 2010 at 02:01 PM.

Re: Monroeville Barnes & Noble Attack ???
Not to put down the OP or his manager, but it kinda sounds like a fake email story with a local Monroeville store mentioned to make it sound legit.
Then again, I won't say it didn't or wouldn't happen. Just the way it's written sounds a little suspicious.

Re: Monroeville Barnes & Noble Attack ???
Perhaps the gangs have gone up-scale migrating from Walmart to Barnes and Noble?

Re: Monroeville Barnes & Noble Attack ???
I though if I showed up at a Walmart the people I know would just assume that I was cheap, trashy and like to buy my anti-freeze, ammo and frozen pizzas at the same place. (hey, horse feed is expensive...) Are you suggesting that I should/shouldn't be worried that more that my personal self-image is at stake and I might be robbed?F*S=k
