Default Just lost my pet today!

I have a dutch rabbit for close to 8years now and today when I came home from work he did not eat or drink all day. We took him to the vet and they drew blood and took x-rays which showed a problem with his stomach which was swollen and causing him not to eat. The vet said it is a secondary cause and not treatable, it was early stages. They explained that we could put him down or leave him for the weekend which they would give him IV to see if he will eat but even then it's not a fix for him. The vet said for his age it's common. So we decided not to put him through any more aggrivation or pain. He was a great family pet which lived indoors all the time with us. My kids loved to feed and play with him. It was tough to say good by but we feel it was best.

Sorry to hear about that, its rough on the kids for sure, but learns them a lesson in life, all things come to an end. Pets generally last about 5 to 10 years, I think God created house pets so we would learn how to cope with losing a living being we love.

You can't replace a pet, but that does not mean you can't have a new one, let the grieving go by, then maybe look at a new friend for the kids. Nice thing about pets, they dont care about your age, they dont talk back (although some have attitudes) and they keep a secret till death.
Young and old, every one should experiance a pet.

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. My wife and I had to put down our Doberman a few years ago, and there is probably not a day that goes by that we don't think of him. He had an incurable liver disease and got to a point to where my wife and I had to make the decision you did.

It took me a long time to even take down his crate. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. A few years went by and even though we wanted another Doberman, we weren't ready for another dog. Lo and behold we were in the right place at the right time and we now have a wonderful GSD named Nikki, but we still miss Thor. So much so that I got a tattoo earilier this year in his honor.

    Vetter,
I'm very sorry for your family's loss.
Sadly, I posted a message much like yours in April when we put our oldest dog down. Hearing the kind words of support from the members here really made a difference as my wife and I read (and wept) through them.
Damn. My eyes are tearing up again.
I wish you all well and you should be commended for giving him an indoor home so he could be a part of your family.

    Take care.

Sorry to hear about your loss...People become very attached to their pets and it is understandable to grieve over a loss.
