    Default Lackawanna County Courthouse

i finally got my friend to go get his LTCF today, unfortunately we got there at 3:30 and they wouldnt do it. well thats not really the point, when we went in i told the officer i had a weapon to check and she asked what department i was with. i replied civilian, she kind of looked at me funny but nothing super unusual. she then asked for my "License" which i showed her (i was CC). i went through the metal detector to the lockers, took out my Glock 21 and knife put them in, signed the log and locked them up.

what happens next is what bothers me. after i locked my weapon up there were two other officers there with wands, one of which is a personal friend who is also friends with the guy i was taking to get his LTCF, so they were talking. i asked the other officer if i should go back through the metal detector or if he was going to wand me. his response, no you can go.

not one of the three officers was paying that much attention to me when i was locking up my weapon that i easily could have kept it on me or more easily had a second one that i didnt put in the locker. im not a criminal and have no intention of shooting up the courthouse but i definitely feel that is a serious breach of security if there goal and purpose is to keep weapons out.

im not sure if this is worthy to call the Sheriff as no one really did anything wrong, i imagine that is just the way they do things. i am, however, going to talk to the officer that i knew the next time i see him out, which is usually every weekend.

    any opinions?

This seems to be the standard lackadaisical attitude. I've seen it at almost every courthouse I've visited and checked a weapon.

At least they didn't hassle you about checking the weapon...

The Guy saw that you were friends with his partner so he cut you some slack, he is assuming that for you to be friends with his partner you must be a sane law abiding individual, but yeah they both of them screwed up, back in New York City i have fired officers for lesser screw up than that, next time you see your friend politely in a nice way tell him to tighten up shit at the courthouse .

You may get your friend in trouble if you talk to the Sheriff.

Just use it against him when you are running low on beer or Ammo Money.

The question is... do they let everyone who checks a gun bypass the detectors...or was this just because the deputy knew these guys?

Not that it's right in either case.

I think you are right on this. We have heard the same story many times over the past year.
