You would be surprised to know how many people visit a local sporting goods store remove their gun from their holster to do something and proceed to fire a bullet through the roof or floor.

    Thing happen.

Also remember that the store does not carry all of the catalog items. Check in the catalog and identify the brand and correct style and size number for you handgun. This way you don't have to unbag all of them to test fit.

Take it unloaded. Go to the hunting section & over by the plastic traveling case they have for rifles, over 1 isle is all the holsters there. Look for the one that has your model & test fit it. Then buy it. IF you ask for help to find them, wait till the guy leaves & then test fit it.

Just looking to cause problems - aren't you----the staff WILL NOT appreciate anyone drawing in the aisles.

I went in search of a SERPA for my Beretta Border Marshall (based on the Brigadier slide). Approach customer service - notify them of your need to find a holster for your UNLOADED weapon. Someone from firearms will escort/accompany you to help try different holsters for fit - very helpful overall.
Unfortunately, the Brig slide is wider than the traditional 92FS - so no Serpa for me!

This is what I would what do. Mine can stealthily remain at my side. In fact, I'll need to do this at Gander with my PPS.

This is exactly what I did at Cabela's. Took the holsters I was looking at up to the counter and asked the salesperson to pull a Sigma from their counter to test fittings. No need for my firearm to be seen.

You could probably call ahead and ask if they have your particular firearm in their inventory.

Was it loaded? Did you check it at the door?

That's quite a bit of negligence on your part.

Put it in a case of some sort, assuming you have one. Make sure it is unloaded! At the front door, you will be greeted by one of the employees there, who may or may not ask you if you have a gun that needs to be secured. He is not asking you about any carry gun that should already be in a holster. If he (or she) does not ask, tell him. At that point he will turn you over to someone else who will tell you it needs to be unloaded and locked. Then, when you explain that you brought it in to try out holsters, he will reply that he has no idea how you are supposed to try holsters when it has a lock on it, whereupon he will forgo the lock and escort you over to assist you with selecting a holster. At least, this is how it has worked for me on several occasions.

I don't understand it being negligent, I've carried for about 15 years. I've gone to cabela's since they opened and have never checked a gun at the door. if I thought that I was going to shoot someone when I try my gun in a holster I would not be carrying a gun to start with. I always have my gun with me and if I were going to have it UNLOADED I might as well just carry a BAG OF ROCKS. Just my 2 CT's
BUT WHEN I'M BUYING A HOLSTER, I'M TRYING MY GUN IN IT.
