A friend had an old .22 that the outside was rusty. The barrel was great. Best .22 I shot. As far as higher perssure arms, I would have them checked out first. Better safe.

Clean them up as best you can with plenty of oil and 0000 steel wool very lightly, just enough to get the rust off...if you start to score the bluing STOP. If your unsure how they will function take them to a gunsmith to have them checked out.

This is what's supposed to happen to family guns. Very nice find. Take that Mossberg out for a spin, you'll love it, I promise!

If you have the skills to get the furniture off, do so.
If you have any doubts at all about how they will shoot get them checked out by a smith....other than that I agree, shoot away.

the 95 and the H&R are run of the mill "first squirrel guns", worth about $75 each in york county. the hamilton is seen from time to time, and is a garden pest gun, also known as a "cat rifle". it is worth about $125 if in good+ condition. the saddle ring carbine is $250-400, depending on the buyer. the chuckster is worth about $150-175 most days.

the fact that they came from your grandfather makes them worth a bunch more.

I know that it has been said before, but that Winchester is breathtaking, you got it for a pretty good price too. I love heirlooms, especially when they are firearms.

    Suggestion:

If your grandfather is able to accompany you to the range, I think it would be an absolutely awesome way to shoot them for the first time. And take a camera.

Sorry I can't help with any info on those family treasures, but I'm happy to see them go to someone who has some interest in them, rather than being discarded or sold for a few bucks.
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Absolutely shoot them! Not shooting them is like pissing off Jah and not hanging around to see what happens.
