Question older .30-06 and need ideas for a scope

I got my dad's old .30-06 and it has a Bushnell 3x9 scope on it, and i want to go buy something better since i saved money on the rifle. I honestly don't know if it matters, but it is a Remington 760 gamemaster. would like to stay in the $300.00 range but i can probably go more once i get my tax return. suggestions are welcomed!

    thanks in advance

It being a pump gun I would probably leave as is.3x9 is plenty.Spend the money on something else you want.

For $170 you can get a 3-9X40 Nikon Pro-Staff from Cabela's with the Bullet Drop Compensator recticle. With the shooting I do, even a much cheaper, basic Simmons would have worked, but I decided to go with the Nikon. I have been so impressed with the clarity of the scope that I can't help but recommend it.

What model of Bushnell? The Scopechiefs were/are pretty good.

Assuming you're planning on hunting it, I'd look at one of Bushnell Elites with the Rainguard coating. You should be able to find the 3-9 Elite 4200 for $250-$275. That's the best scope value around right now.

I have a Rem760 with an old Redfield Tracker scope mounted on see-thru rings. It's a devil in the brush. Great gun for hunting and "protecting".

The new Redfield scopes made by Leopold (dark red box, black lettering) are awesomely bright and well-made. I'd put them on a par with Nikon, and way above a Simmons or BSA.
