Suppressed Newbie Question???

I saw a suppressed Ruger MKIII at the gun show in Bristol and I'm starting to think I want it...It was Kinda like the awc amphibian. From what I am reading here you just can't buy one at a show and walk out with it...So other than the $700.00 the guy wanted for it, How much is it going to cost me? It sounds like you have to jump through hoops to get approved to own a suppressor. Is a suppressed gun different than a loose supressor? What do I need to know before getting my hopes up?
