Re: RIA
nice pics ! between all of you guys, and info. I am reading on 1911 sites, hard to find anyone who says they are not good ( other than the occasional super gun snob ). For $ 390 delivered, I'm going with the RIA compact. Any suggestions for making it an even nicer gun ( besides cosmetic, I'll have no problem there ) but anything like springs, guides, trigger, etc. that you would recommend upgrading that is fairly easy for the novice ?
Thanks all !

Re: RIA
New question guys, waiting on my RIA compact ( went to pick up at my ffl yesterday and guy sent full size by mistake so another day or two before I get my compact ). I have purchased some Raasco applejack grips, a slip in pearce finger groove grip, and I wanted to get some new sights but I'm not 100% sure the sights on this gun can be replaced ? I read somewhere that the front sight at least is "tacked" in ? Anyone know ? And if they can be replaced, are they easy enough for an amateur to do or is it better off left to a gunsmith to hammer them out and replace ? Thanks !

Re: RIA
When you get the gun you will see if the front sight is a dovetail or "staked in". If it is staked in you need to know what size stake it is before you order a new front sight.
To replace a staked in sight it is easiest to use a dremel tool to remove the material from the underside of the slide so you can get the sight off. Then you put in the new sight and use a staking tool to secure it to the slide. If you have the tools it's not too bad. If you don't, it would be easier to take it to a gunsmith, it doesn't take that long to be done.
If it's a dovetail sight, you just need to know the width and angles of the dovetail so you can match the replacement sight correctly.Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: RIA
Thanks, reship should be here tomorrow, can't wait to pick it up. And here's another "last question" Are the slide stops on 45 all the same ? Do the full size and compact take the same slide - everything I see seems to say they are the same. Any issues with the extended release one's ? I like using my right thumb to release the slide and this seems to make that easier ?
