favorite product to stop color bleeding from leather holsters?
Didn't start happening until it got some wear, but if i get really sweaty my holster stains my undershirt. Is there a waterproofing product that people use on the outside of their holsters for this?

Son of a Gun Protectant... Can buy it anywhere, kind of like armor-all... Works great. Water-proofs very well also... CAUTION: Very slippery. Do not get on the bottom of your shoes! Yes, I learned that the hard way...

Re: favorite product to stop color bleeding from leather holsters?
thanks chaz, about how long between applications? Seems to be an automotive product...maybe i should try the 303 aerospace protectant i have. I know it beats the STP stuff, at least where my car interior is concerned.
Also, any other ideas are still welcome.Last edited by MarcS; September 3rd, 2007 at 08:49 PM.

Re: favorite product to stop color bleeding from leather holsters?
I used to use it once every 3 or 4 months on my boots and I never had a leak. Well, I did, but that was after I discovered a hole in the side of my boot... lol
It works on nearly every surface, makes everything look shiny and new...I like guns... And boobs...

I assume its leather. Get some saddle soap and give it a good wash/cleaning.
This should remove all the "excess" dye. Then you can spray/wipe with some leather sealant. You might have to do it occasionally.
I had a leather purse once. Red. Stained everything. I did this procedure and it never happened again.
Although, sweat contains salt which is an abrasive and might make it bleed a little bit.
There are allot of commercial products on the market made for shoes to stop dye bleeding. Check some of those out.
You really don't want to waterproof do you? The only true waterproof item is rubber.
Good Luck

Re: favorite product to stop color bleeding from leather holsters?
Not 100% on topic, but somewhat related. When I was in Canada, there was a product that I could buy right out the shoe store that would "color" the leather the color you wanted it. IE: if you had brown shoes and wanted them black, you bought the black spray, hit your shoes with it an dpresto, your shoes where now black.
I have asked about this every store I can think of in the US, and no one can come up with anything remotely like it.
If I remember well, there where 2 cans, one was to remove the previous color, the other to tint to the new color. The reason I mention this is. It is much easyer to find "Tan" holsters then black ones, but I prefer black. Just putting liquid shoe polish on them wont work either.Skeet is a sport where you are better to hit half of each bird then completely blast one and miss the other completely.

Get an Andrews Leather MacDaniel II in the natural oil finish, it should never bleed on you and it's one hell of a holster.
Or have a 2-piece type holster custom made with the natural leather on the inside panel and whatever color you want on the outside.
What holster is bleeding on you (who made it, what model and what color)?
