fired bullets
anybody try to recover fired bullets?
me and a few buddies do every now and agian.
pretty neat what you find some times.
when you shoot steel plates you do not often get much back.
here is some stuff i've recovered over the years. i normally only care about stuff that came from one of my guns, and these are all from my stuff.
this 230gn 45auto hollow point was from a box of winchester white box from small mart. it was shot into a pile of wood chips.Last edited by brian; September 26th, 2012 at 05:24 PM.

Re: fired bullets
here are a bunch of fmj 230 g 45's.
the one on the far right could almost be reloaded again.
not sure what these went into.
some might have been the chip pile agian others from the back stop at the range.Last edited by brian; September 26th, 2012 at 05:24 PM.

Re: fired bullets
these two came from an afternoon of shooting 1/2"(0.50") lexan.
turns out it can stop a 45 automatic at 25 yards.
i can't find the two pieces of lexy i kept anymore...but they were neat too.Last edited by brian; September 26th, 2012 at 05:24 PM.

Re: fired bullets
here we have some 45's shot at steel.
left front are two cast 230 45 slugs, they have lost about two thirds of their weight.
the center is now just a waffer of it's former self.Last edited by brian; September 26th, 2012 at 05:24 PM.

Re: fired bullets
here is a 200g 45 auto, that i over powered.
you can see almost no trace of rifling on it. on the left side you can see a thin strip of where it was starting to strip past the rifling rather than just twist.
i sent a handful down range till i figured out what was going on.
it looked like i was shooting blackpowder.......the mess in the bore and forcing cone was enough of a lesson there.Last edited by brian; September 26th, 2012 at 05:24 PM.

Re: fired bullets
my friend and I were shooting at a steel heating oil tank that was set up on a private rance once and we used the side door sort of like a swinging plate and propped a wooden pallet about 6 inches behind it as a stop.
When the rounds ( FMJ FN ) would hit they would fall straight down as the door would swing back, hit the pallet, and return back to its position. It was really cool to go look at the rounds that had fallen and see how they flattened out.Last edited by CHEMICAL; February 28th, 2010 at 02:58 PM.
