Do yourself a favor and have it checked by a good gun smith before you try and fire it. check www.powderinc.com for shells. Also SASS West Virginia State Black Power Shootout, III is May 14th 15th and 16th in Eleanor, WV. Can't find nicer guys that at a SASS shoot plus bet they would love to see your shotgun.

Thanks, I was looking at them but thought they would be too high pressure ? I talked with the guys at rst from seeing the post earlier, and they say them and one other were the last they knew of in the country to load black powder, but both stopped and said I probably wouldn't find any. But you think those best grade's would be ok ? Any tips on firing the gun for the first time - maybe hide behind a steel wall and reach around - lol.
Thanks again for the info. !

i understand the temptation, but i think you're crazy to fire this thing. i'd buy or build a really nice display for it, and appreciate the art. even with low pressure it just doesn't seem worth the risk.

Yeah, might end up that way - keep it for show and buy a new replica or remington coach gun for $ 300 or $ 400 !

Finally found a guy in Wisconsin - rural route something - lol, so I am picturing a great ole timer loading black powder in his barn I have to shoot this baby at least once or twice. The shotgun looks very tight, nothing rattles or sways, no cracks in wood or steel, etc, etc.. Anything else you think I should look for to see if it is safe ? Any tips on shooting it the first time besides reaching through holes in a wall to pull the trigger - lol.
