Default PS90 ... the perfect personal defense weapon?

After eying one for many months, I finally made the move on a PS90.

I absolutely LOVE it! Got a tri-rail model in black and added an Aimshot HGM2 holo sight, Magpul MBUS front BUIS, a fake CMMG can, and a Sig Sauer STL-900L laser/light combo. I have only put 100 rounds through it, but has turned it into my bedside companion, replacing my Sig P556. Having gone through a few other HD options, I think I've found the perfect HD gun in several regards:

    1. Reliability (Only 100 rounds fired by me so far, but about 200 fired by the previous owner)
    2. Portability/maneuverability (It weighs just as much as my P556 loaded, but with 50 rounds in the mag)
    3. Capacity (50 and will get a clamp with mag cap. I realize that there is a weight issue, but nothing beats having an extra mag in case of malfunction. Who carries a mag pouch while sleeping anyway?
    4. Minimal/lack wall penetration of VMax bullets from the 5.7 round.

In any case, a few things I'm not too crazy about:
    1. The trigger and grip can be slippery if your hand/finger are sweaty. I'm thinking about using some sort of tape (skateboarding was recommended) on the front of the trigger to provide some added friction. Any thoughts?

    2. There is a potential of grabbing the gun by the trigger loop instead of the grip loop, especially if you're in half-awake state and/or under adrenaline...and in the dark. Any advice on avoiding this or am I too overly concerned? I know the safety is on, but...

    3. Tri rail my ass! What's up with the dinky shorties on the side? Mounting the laser/light actually interfered with the mag. I had to use a riser. I am planning on getting the extended rails, but I think that's pretty half-ass of FN. The extended rails can be had for $50 + shipping a set!!!

I really like the Aimshot. It's very well constructed, costs 1/5 of an Eotech and comes with 4 reticules. Most of all, it fits PERFECTLY on the rail together with the MBUS front sight. Can't fit a rear BUIS anywhere, but it's the last resort after the holo sight and the laser.

The fake can is a must. The skinny barrel is just butt ugly. I went for the CMMG instead of the MFI because it is a replica of the real suppressor. It also has a quick release by pushing in and turn 1/4 turn. The MFI also has issues with SS195 ammo, according to the manufacturer.

Anyway, I also ordered the airsoft quad rail kit to be modified. Your feedback, recommendations, comments on what mentioned above are great appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not a fan of the fake suppressor...considering you live in PA, which allows NFA items.

I'm also not a fan of the doubler mag holder, since it will change your POA. I find that one 50rd mag is plenty for things that go bump in the night. If you need more than 50rds, I'd question your shooting abilities.

I agree that the 1 slotted FN rail is pretty lame...it functions, but having the 5 slotted rail from Promoted Pawn is the way to go.

The one slotted rail will work on my TLR1 with my red dot.

I just scored on 1,800 rounds of SS195, so I'm pretty happy with that find. I also just ordered some brass to reload as well. Sad part is, I haven't been to the range with my new FsN, PS90 or my AR57 upper. Looks like I'll have to have a full day just to sight in my new purchases.

Congrats on your PS90. It's one of the truly ambi weapons platforms out there. Now if FN would offer it in say a 223 or 308...I'd be one happy camper.

    Thanks!

Philadelphia and PA are 2 different countries when it comes to NFA stuff. Not a chance for me until I get an LLC.

The extra mag is more for jams/malfunction rather than for extra rounds.

    This.

Everything looks great I am just not really jazzed up about spending .223 money on a round that delivers 30-40% of the energy.

The 50rd mags, ergo's etc are outstanding however.

The high profile of the sights above the bore can take some getting used to shooting up close, but the portability more than makes up for it.

    Nice toy!

Sort of like an FS2000? (just hate the price)

Mythaus, I love the PS90. I'm with you on the long skinny barrel so I believe I would probably wish to SBR it. I have seen some others do that and it looked awesome.

Yes, it is awesome. Mine has a Aimpoint ML2 on it now, with a laserlyte laser on the left side, and a Streamlight m3 on the right, which is easily turned on by the trigger finger. I'm also using the Swift sling by blackhawk, it hands the gun from your neck, or other clip setup.

I originally had the M2, and the 1/2x28 adapter to put my suppressor on, but it changed the POI too much for my taste, so i put the CMMG Repro FN p90 flash hider on. the Barerel is also a CMMG chrome lined 10.3" SBR barrel.

Myth, honestly, ditch the front BUIS, and mount your sight correctly with no riser... the weird (and kinda useless) front sight setup is why you have such awkwardness on the mag change... also, might want to switch that holotype sight, they are REALLY easy to damage
