    Default Biathlon Rifle Question

I was watching the Olympics biathlon the other night and was puzzled over the action used on their guns. I find out later that it is called a straight pull bolt action. Anybody know anything about this type of action and how it works? Any web references??

You pull straight back on the bolt and it unlocks a lug. Sorta like the Swiss K31, with differences. The .22 rimfire that biathlon rifles are restricted to, or any other .22rf for that matter, don't need heavy locking lugs or mechanisms, so a straight pull design with a minor locking lug arrangement works just fine.

    Biathlon rifles are limited to:
    .22rf
a bolt action(doesn't say it must be a rotating lever bolt)
5rnd mag, not less than 3.5Kg in weight
    must use iron sights
a trigger no less than 500g.

I use to shoot at a range where a girl use to practice for Olympic shooting. The rifle she had was amazing. It was actually pretty heavy for a 22lr. She was good with it to. She would shoot out the center ring off handed at 50 feet. She also wore a special leather padded sleeve ( just a sleeve ).

Can she cook? Sounds like a winner to me.

Don't think I'd mind cooking if I was married to an Olympian...

No doubt most, if not all, of the rifles were Anschutz. Here is a link to the web page.

    I was thinking of the Browning T-Bolt, a straight-pull rifle in 22LR.
