It retailed for about $300 at the time.......and it handled very fast indoors.

all the women in my police academy class qualified with an 870 Police Mag. some of them were very small ladies. they did not find it as much "fun" as the men did, but all became good with it and confident in their ability to defend themselves.

This reminded me of my academy days with the 870, (and I think I posted this in another thread). We had two female cadets and one, when crouched on her haunches behind cover with the 870, fired and it literally rolled her onto her backside!!

Fortunately, the muzzle stayed in a safe direction, but it was a site I have never forgotten, especially when I thought about my little woman with a short barreled 12ga. Hence the .410 Mossy.

Strange, I was gonna Post this question myself..Thanks for beating me to it.

Like the others, my wife is around 5 ft 120# - I ended up getting her a Mossberg 500 20 gauge from Gander Mountain of all places. $350 OTD with 1 box of #4 and a box of slugs.

I wanted her to have something other than my .38 in case something goes bump in the night, and in case I'm not around. I think it would be easier to hit something with a 20ga at 2am after being awakened, than a .38 snub.

I'll be training her on it this weekend as long as the floods hold up.
