Henry lever action youth 22lr
I am looking to get a first rifle for my eldest son, he's 9 now and is pretty big for his age. I was thinking of a cricket bolt single shot at first but, am not sure how long it would be before he outgrew it.
It seems like the Henry L/A Youth 22 lr may be a better choice due to it's slightly larger size and being able to load more than one round a time when he gets older.
My question is does anyone have any experience with Henry lever action 22's and what do you think?
Also, I have two younger sons that the rifle could be passed down to and I think my wife might even like it as her home defense gun.

Re: Henry lever action youth 22lr
For a "big" 9yo I'm betting a Crickett will be too small now.
My 7yr old is tall but skinny and the crickett is borderline too small for him. We upgraded him to a Henry lever this Christmas.
The stocks are interchangeable on the henry. He got the regular model and I ordered a youth stock. That way he can keep the gun forever if he so chooses._________________________________________

Re: Henry lever action youth 22lr
I find the Henry's to be a little small, so it shouldnt be too big for a large 9yo, but it also won't become useless at the next growth spurt. Besides, who doesn't love lever actions!?

I have a Henry 22 not the youth model. But a fun rifle to shoot. And for the money well built.

Re: Henry lever action youth 22lr
Good choice!
Butter-smooth action for young hands and a just great handling rifle, wish I'd have gotten the "youth" version as it is handier than my "regular" H001 version. I have no issue with the AK-like LOP on the Youth version as a trade off to overall length...
Henry probably has the BEST cust svc of the industry. Make sure you stop by here to the Henry forum (Henry Firearms CEO lurks there too!):

Re: Henry lever action youth 22lr
I picked up a used Henry youth from a friend. I took my daughter to range with it on her 9th birthday. She is of average/ small size. The lop was a bit long, but not by much. She had no issue being able to shoot and this was her first range trip. I think that a repeater would be a much better route and the Henry's are a fine specimine.
