Re: PAFOA Group Shoot #37, Welcoming SCCC, CCAC Chapter.
Hello, really enjoyed the shoot, specially the "house", always my favorite. I was slow but getting more accurate, and it was good to try out my new holster and magazine holder.
Not sure regarding safety issue of leaving a empty gun behind on the table where the guns are typically placed when empty. I am trying to think of a parallelism with medical procedures, where human error occurs more frequently when systems or checklists are not in place. Examples of systems to ensure patient safety include sponge counts or instrument counts after surgery, having roving hand hygiene spies who catch personnel who don't wash hands before seeing patients, checking which leg to amputate multiple times: left or right.
The closest parallelism I can think of is leaving a capped unused needle lying around. An unscrupulous person could potentially misuse the found needle. It might scare someone who doesn't know if it is dirty or clean. It likely won't harm anyone cause it is capped and clean, but best not to leave it lying around because of its potential to harm.
Double checking that you have all your stuff before you leave for and from the shoot is probably the way to go. We've left eyes and ears at home once so clueless and I learned that lesson ;-).

Re: PAFOA Group Shoot #37, Welcoming SCCC, CCAC Chapter.
Just my take....
We DO have NRA trained RO's......and we DO have a range procedure.......and the RO's cleared the area after the shoot and found the error. That's their job.
No different than any other safety infraction.......procedure and supervision keep infractions from becoming safety problems. A gun on the table under supervision is not a problem.
Someone was careless.....but we plan for varying levels of experience and the response was appropriate.
An interesting statistic comes to mind that I learned back in flight school. New students didn't make as many fatal errors as those who just were awarded their license. Those that thought they had all the basics under their belt got sloppy.....and got bit.
No matter what the experience level.....mistakes happen.
