Default What is good price for .223/5.56?

I've been "shopping" prices for .223 ammo. Mostly I find that 48 cents/round seems to average for the larger general sporting goods vendors, Cabelas and the like. Is that a good price point or too high for a bulk buy? Are sites like Gunbroker or gun shows a better place to buy? What are others paying?

I am hoping to stock a thousand rounds or perhaps more and of course shooting and replacing some. So I'm not sure what a bargain would look like. Dumb question, I know, but I'm hoping to get some answers like, "If less than .XX, it's a good price."

    Thanks

The above link is deff a good place to start.

Steel case; Wolf, Tula, Brown Bear seem to range from $.20-.30/round
Brass case; too many to name are $.33 and up

Alot of these places are probably list on the ammoengine site.

I don't think you can find it anymore, but Greek made Olympic .223 was about $220 a case of 1000 including tax.

Right now I buy (when I buy) brass cased FMJ at $300-$310 - although it's not always in stock at those prices. Anything $350 and under is a decent price in today's market.

Wow, that's a blast from the past. They don't import that stuff anymore. Some of it was good but a lot of it was very very bad. If you find some it should be considered components only.
