Re: trap shooting scores
Its addictive, for sure lol.
I got nudged into it a couple of months ago with a loaner Ithaca side/side 20ga. Bought a CZ Redhead O/U 20ga and began shooting in the low teens. Last week I bought a used CG Summit Limited O/U 12ga, patterned it, hit on the first shot, shot 3 rounds in the mid-teens, and then a 21/25 on the final round.
The key for me was forgetting about aiming per se and finally trusting my instincts. These take time and practice to adapt to trap from, eg, hitting a wide receiver downfield. Well, the 12ga prolly helped some too lol.
I can tell you the ride home felt *great*.

Re: trap shooting scores
I just started shooting clays for the first time two weeks ago.
I have to say that it's addicting as hell.
We were using some 870s, my dad's old O/U Savage.
I think the highlight of the weekend shooting clay was having a guy go apeshit on us for using the MKA-1919.
"What the hell?! You know that you can only use that on the rifle range!"
"Ummm---" *racked it, ejected a shell and showed him*
"Oh....".
Definitely want to find a place around here to do some trap (this was in Montour County).

Re: trap shooting scores
Be Very Careful......you may end up with a closet full of shotguns.
Trap is great fun, as are any of the clay bird games. And, yes, there are some uptight people but you can and do find them anywhere you go.
Competitions are the best practice.
As to a club...try The North Mt. Sportsmans Association in Muncy Valley. They have a marvelous facility and Trap every Wednesday evening in the warmer weather.

If you were shooting in Montour Co., where were you shooting? Was this 16 yard Trap?
About guns.....you can shoot at clays with pretty much any type of SG. And hit some. It is informative, though, to look at serious competitors.....the guys who do run 200 straight.....and notice what they are not using. There are reasons that those long barreled single shots are popular.

Re: trap shooting scores
The good shooters in my traveling trap league constantly shoot 98, 99, or 100out of a possible 100 at either 16 yard or international trap.
Then if you're going to the regional shoots figure the good shooters are shooting 198,199, or 200 out of 200 targets. The oracle is in. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!!

Re: trap shooting scores
This was at Hellertown Sportsman's Association.
They have it every Tues and Thurs.
It was 16 yard. Everyone else had single barrel Perazzi, Krieghoff, and Brownings.
It was the most fun I've had shooting in a long time.

Re: trap shooting scores
Just checked your location in Northampton County.....Muncy Valley is quite a ride from you.
There is a very serious (big...and days long) Trap event out in Elysburg...The PA State Shoot from June 10th through the 16th.

Re: trap shooting scores
it goes by classes. If you have never shot trap in competition, you will probably win the first 2 classes, c and b class. when you get into a class you better hit 96 out of 100. Most trap comps are 600 rounds. 200 @ 16yrd 200@ handicap and 200 doubles. you dont have to do all of them. you can just do 16 yrd and handi. With that being said there are places that do 50 rd shoots. it will change from place to place. if you can hit 90 out of 100 you will for sure do well in c class.
