Question High-Point 9mm? is it junk?

After asking the group on this forum about 22LR, i have ended up looking at 9mm instead

one of my buddies told me yesterday that he had come across this gun in 9mm by High-Point for less than $200USD!

This seems pretty cheap for a 9mm, so i am wondering if anyone has any experience with this company. are they actually decent or pretty good guns, or are they (as the price suggests) just cheap junk!?

ah, edit: here's the link to the product page High-Point C9

I have no experience with High Point. Very ugly guns, IMHO. They are very cheap but a lot of guys say they've never had any problems with them.

s/b able to get one for well under $ 200. I have heard they are actually pretty decent guns for reliability. The issue is they are ugly, heavy and clunky - lol. If you just want a 9 mm to chew through some ammo and have fun with, from what i hear, it's not bad. personally, i'd spend a couple more bucks and get a better looking, lighter gun.

They are ugly but they work. I have a hi point 995 9mm carbine and it is 100% reliable and fairly accurate. There is a forum called Hi pont talk that you could check out.

Unhappy Re: High-Point 9mm? is it junk?

hmm, judging by jah's reaction, i just opened a particularly unsavory can of worms. i apologize for that.

i would also add that I do not plan on buying one. i'm saving up my dollars. but i wanted to know anyway...probably a bad idea, in retrospect.

Ok here goes. HP's are made in Ohio, with a no questions asked lifetime warranty. Some (im talking about all models) work flawlessly out of the box, and some dont. If one dosen't run right, send it back and it usually does fine after it's returned. Usually you get a free magazine or two for your trouble. If its all you can afford or want to spend, just make sure the bugs are worked out before you carry it for protection. Lots of much more expensive handguns also require a trip back to the factory to get them running right. JMO. YMMV.

some people that own hi-points swear by them and i've read a lot of negative posts about hi-point's but i've never fired one myself. in my opinion hi-points are the best gun of the junk gun market compared to lorcin, bryco, jennings and the like. there's truth in the statement "you get what you pay for" so don't think you're paying 200 bucks for a NIB hi-point that is just as good as a glock, beretta, SW, ruger etc. i wouldn't own a hi-point because i'm in the camp that think they are junk but if hi-point is all you can afford it's certainly better than throwing stones.

if you're looking to get a cheap 9mm look into getting a name brand pistol like the ruger p89 which routinely sell for about 300 used or a used glock for between 350-400. there's also a lot of combloc milsurp pistols on the market like the cz82, PA63 and a few others that are excellent quality guns that are selling for a little more than what a NIB hi-point would cost.
