Dry fire a Rem 870?

I picked up a Remington 870 combo primarily for hunting this fall (after I take the Hunters Ed class) and possibly for HD if I get a shorter barrel for it.

I did not see anything in the manual with regards to dry firing it and wondered what the general consensus is here.
I searched online and found cases for (practice is good) and against (possibly busting the firing pin) but got nothing conclusive.
I ordered some snap caps but am still curious what experiences other 870 owners here may have had on the subject.

I have a mossberg 500 and as i understand it is not the best to dry fire it. I use snap caps.

i have an 870 and dry fire it all the time. i dont think you can break an 870 unless you try and cut a tree down with it.

While I don't make a habit of it I have dry fired mine. Mostly when I first bought it trying to get familar with the pull and break. Maybe 50 times all told.

You can't hurt it, unless you try to cut down trees with it. I heard that somewhere.

i have an 870 express and i have dry-fired it alot and it still works. my 870 is still under warranty so i aint worried if it breaks ,but i doubt it will ever break, those things are built to last years if propery maintained.

I've been dry firing my 870 since I bought it 18 years ago. Dry firing is the cheapest practice you can get. I've never had a problem. The 870 also works great for cutting down trees!

Not true. You can cut down small trees with an 870... less than 8" in diameter.
