Very nice, my 686 was my first handgun purchase as well and the collection blossomed from there. Enjoy shooting it.

the 4" "L" framed smiths have pretty good balance, not to heavy not to lite, and the extra mass of the full under lug helps absorb some recoil.
all in all a pretty good package from a very good company.
is it a straight 686 or is there a dash number with it?it's only metal, we can out think it....

Smith and Wesson L frames are top notch. I love my 686-6 SSR, and she loves me back. Lately my 327 M&P has been my hot mistress and range favorite.

The 686 is a fine shooter that will out last you!
If it is a no dash look for a "M" stamped in the crane area right near where it says 686,
If no "M" it can take a trip back home for an upgrade on their penny!
