Uzi for SHTF/HD gun

How would you stack up a UZI against an AR or AK for SHTF/HD? I'm not talking about shooting at longer ranges - nothing beyond 50 yds. No doubt if the BD has body armour the Uzi will not be as effective. On the other hand, the uzi shoots cheaper ammo & w/ subsonic ammo & a suppressor, you can be whisper quiet.

About on par with any other pistol-caliber carbine, I suppose. Better than a pistol, but it doesn't really compare to a rifle-caliber rifle.

I'd rather use a Kel-Tec Sub2000, it balances better for me (only shot an Uzi twice though, full stock version).

if you are refering to the uzi semi carbine...

pass

the weight loaded is heaver than an ar 15 and the ergos are not as good as an ar 15. and with the carbine lenght barrel you have no advantage in a home defense situation as opposed to using an ar15.

had one used it and sold it.

now if you are talking about a full auto legal uzi......

in a closed in space it can work but you will need training, and more training to effectively use it in tight spaces.

Add on the fact that regardless of whether it's FA or not and no matter what training you have, you're still shooting a pistol round.

it depends what kind of shtf scenario we're pretending happened.
is it just a shtf or is it teotwawki? in a shtf if somebody needs shot i most likely want other people in the general area to know that the mo fo over there has a gun and will use it. so unless you're cool, you better just stay the fok away.
on the other hand if it is teotwawki and the zombies are about then maybe i'd start thinking about doing any shooting on the down low. once they hear shooting they think it's the dinner bell ringing and all start flocking to the area.
even if there are no zombies i'm pretty sure i'd want to keep things on the dl.
there might be a group of tough guys about that could hear the shooting and think "hey there's another tough guy around here. lets kill him, take his guns and then we'd be that much tougher".
so it just all depends on the big picture.

I guess it's better than a Screw Driver....would'nt be my first or my hundredth choice though.

I guess just like anything else, it has it's place, just not as a primary survival tool.

I vote no. for HD It's hard to beat a 12ga. For shtf it's AR and AK for me.

Better than a pistol

Probably not. The versions available - limited hands on here - are not particularly accurate. I have more hands on time with a Mac 11. Good for burning ammo but if I want to place my shots with a minimum of fuss and bother, I'm going to have a pistol that I know is accurate and/or a shotgun/AR/SKS.
