Default Newbie reloading question, so be gentle.

    Hey guys,
I just am starting to reload and my last question is; I thought I saw something about lubing the bullets, Do i need to lube the bullets for loading? I'm using 115gr jacketed not lead casted if that matters.

    Thanks for any help.

First, read the sticky at the top of the reloading forum.

Second, in direct answer to your question, "No, you do not need to lubricate JACKETED bullets. Only cast or swaged lead with the lead exposed need to be lubed. Lubrication of lead bullets is accomplisned by several methods, depending on the lead. Some have a groove (or grooves) for a waxy-type lube injected in the grooves during the sizing operation. Other bullets are "tumble-lubed" in a "moly" product (generally molybdenum sulfide in a solution that evaporates the solvent out to allow the waxy residue containinng the lubricant to adhere to the bullets).

With jacketed bullets, essentially, the jacket is the lubricant.
