FN Five-seveN?
One of my friends works uniformed services for the secret service, and they are switching to these puppies. I had a chance to fire his personal piece.
I'm a pretty good shot, nothing phenomenal, but I put down pretty tight patterns.
I put two mags through this thing, in +1, so 42 rounds; the pattern was the size of a quarter.EVERY shot went where I put it.
Granted, his sights were adjusted by a Secret Service armorer, put there is absolutely no recoil to speak of (I've fired .22s with more), and this thing just plays.
Any reason why I don't want one?"...a REPUBLIC, if you can keep it."

The ammo that gives it it's real advantage is limited to LEO/Military Only. The specialty ammo will not be useful for any other gun, ever, and it is kind of on the expensive side. Otherwise, it is a great gun.

Re: FN Five-seveN?
I just picked up my FiveSeven on Monday. I like the weight of the pistol and I like the fact that I can purchase CMMG 10rd extensions for the magazine.
The whole ammo is expensive argument is silly at best. The 57 ammo is actually cheaper when compared to 223 because the SS197 uses Hornady 40gr Vmax bullets. You can buy a case of 1k for roughly $375 dollars...I can promise you that you will not be buying a case of 223 using Vmax bullets for the same price.
If you are LEO/Military, FN has a program called DSP. That is how I purchased my FiveSeven. The discount is great because it is much cheaper than anything you will find in any gun shop.
If you have the money...I say get one. You won't regret buying an FN product because they build quality firearms for various countries and their CS/warranty is top notch.

Re: FN Five-seveN?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....but with that being said....I find the FN Five-seveN to be an U-G-L-Y gun.
I have not heard of the Secret Service moving to this round/gun. Sounds to be a good move if all the ballistics I have read are true.

Re: FN Five-seveN?
I find that gun dead sexy. I was looking at one recently but I cannot justify $1000 for a handgun no matter what round it shoots or how it looks.

Re: FN Five-seveN?
Are they switching to this as a standard, everyday carry gun or standard issure SPECIALTY gun?
It was my understanding they have used these and the carbines for some time now but just for certain special circumstances.
The Fort Hood shooter used 1 of these and while "shooting unarmed fish in a barrel" only had a 30% kill ratio.
I have to wonder what a .40 or .45 would have done in the same situation.

Re: FN Five-seveN?
Actually, that is silly at best. People don't buy Vmax in .223 unless they need it specifically for varmints. It is an undesirable round in .223. Hornady is accurate, of course, but if you are spending money for accuracy you don't buy Vmax either.

Re: FN Five-seveN?
the FN 5.7 USG and the P90 is used by the secret service, especially on whitehouse grounds, and its also used by various swat teams, notably houston i believe, that has had several 1 shot stops with the cartridge.
as a note, the USG pistol is the "United States Govt" model that incorporates a list of changes requested by the US for use in service. grip pattern, and a triggerguard useable with gloves are 2 changes.
people can bitch and moan about the cartridge all they want, it falls into the niche it was specifically designed for, personal defense, within a 100yd range, and in the P90, the additional ability for multi-shot capability of full auto, with a bullet designed to tear the ass out of soft body armor.
also, as a note, Elite Ammo sells some hollow point loads that run 2600fps+ in the pistol, and 2900fps or so out of the p90 10" barrel. in the p90 thats 2900fps, with a 50rd mag, in a combo thats 19" long and about 8" tall, and 4" thick.
I myself like the pistol because it has a 20rd capacity, its light, slim, and has the recoil of a 22lr MKII... not to mention ridiculously accurate.
dont like it? dont buy it. more ammo for me."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH
