Re: Cabelas Hamburg
Their selection is great, prices SUCK. I bet you got ripped off on your M&P
Out the door price (tax + 1 box of Hornaday ammo) was $600 at the Sportsman shop in New Holland. Same gun at cabela's USED was $719. I called them out on it saying that was the MSRP of the new gun as listed in the S&W catelog. Salesman said oh well if you won't buy it someone will. I payed off my credit card and will never do business with them again after that.Read what I say as if I were speaking in a matter of fact, unassuming tone.

Re: Cabelas Hamburg
My second post!
Sorry, anyway my wife and I stopped in there last Sunday on our way home from Pittsburgh and it was packed. But they had great deals on clothing which is why we went in the first place.
I *tried* to look at the handguns but there were way too many people. I'll have to try and have a look there during the week when they first open. I've wanted to head back to Eagle Arms (Trexlertown I think) and have a look there but haven't had time.

Re: Cabelas Hamburg
I go in there to look and touch. I don't usually do that for most things. I don't mind paying a higher price for better service for things, and in smaller stores, I will buy if I take up the time of the people there. But Cabela's is way out of line, and the people who work in the gun library are arrogant SOBs. One time I was in the store, they had an XD 45 used at one end of the counter, priced the same as a new one two or three cases down the line!
Another time I was considering buying a used Ithaca shotgun. I will buy a used gun from them if they have it and no one else does. I put a hold on it, and came home to call Ithaca. I spoke with a woman there who was very familiar with the model. I described it to her, and asked her what it was worth. The price was close to $300 less than what Cabela's had it tagged at. When I told her what they were asking (no names mentioned) her reply was, "You're being took." I relayed this conversation to one of the men in the gun library, and his reaction was, "I don't know why she would say that". I said, "Maybe, because it is true?" I didn't buy the gun.
Some of the people who work there are real friendly, and some are drones, just like everywhere else. I don't like the gun library people, although I do enjoy looking at the guns. It is not too far from my home that I can't just go to look around once in a while, and if what I want is competitively priced, or I want it bad enough, I'll buy it. I just bought a range bag from Midway. It was half the price and twice the bag as the one Cabela's had.

Re: Cabelas Hamburg
+100.
First off, I do stop there when I'm in the area. Like any "gun shop" you never know what you'll find, or how good a "good deal" awaits. My usual purchases are reloading consumables, with the occasional value-priced used gun bargain.
That said, I cannot figure out the rhyme and reason for the pricing policy in that store. As for a used gun being at the same price point as a new one, OR HIGHER, I see several examples of that each time I stop there. Then there will be an odd honest "good deal," no problems with the gun, at an incredibly realistic price point. If it's something I'm looking for, I'll take it. If not, then someone else gets a good deal. But for every "good deal" I have maybe 50 to 250 "WTF?" moments when I glance at some price tags.
Generally the prices are higher than anywhere else, but Cabelas shoppers must understand that they are buying from "Cabelas" as if that's supposed to add some kind of value. When people brag about buying exclusively from Cabelas, I translate that to mean the speaker is easily separated from more of his or her money than would be necessary.
Shopping at Cabelas is like fishing or playing softball or baseball. The number of times you snag a "buy" depends on the number of times you toss in the baited hook, or the number of times at bat. If you never stop there, you never find that (rare) good deal.

Re: Cabelas Hamburg
I paid 549.00 each for both guns. although the reason for my post was to tell everyone about my positive experience, not to brag about the deal i got or didn't get.
On another note, i too noticed the prices of the used guns seemed out of line compared to the new guns. It didnt make sense, cant see why anyone would buy used. For $5.00 or $10.00 more you could buy a brand new gun in most cases.

Re: Cabelas Hamburg
To start off, I consider myself a regular customer at this Cabela's since it opened. I live close enough that when looking for something to do, Cabela's is convenient option. I like to browse the store especially the firearms section. Yesterday was the first time I have been there post the Ct. incident. Well, much to my surprise, the firearms counter seemed almost non existent. Optics and other stuff filled cabinets where handguns once existed. The stock of viewable rifles was thin at best and scores of people were wandering like zombies looking for anything they could get their hands on as if it were the old days when the stock was plenty. While not surprised it just saddened me. Looking over at the ammo area, mostly bare shelves. Same thing, people in the aisles wishing there was something there but only to be disappointed.
My visit included picking up a Burris AR-332 Prism sight for my AR using some gift certificates. Speaking with the counter fellow, he said that they are simply out of inventory with barely anything coming in. He said that the less popular shotguns and rifles are now the new run on long arms. They are starting to not be restocked like they used to. He further said that many people are making the trek to the store from far away and only to be disappointed when they arrive.
It is sad what has happened to our country as a result of lunatic actions with propaganda spewed and magnified by the leftist main stream media.
