Re: marlin 883 ss in .22 mag and turkey?
That is a perfect fall turkey gun. My father used to use a .222 and has switched to .22mag about 6 years ago. He has taken many turkey with this round. You must remember where to aim at a turkey with a single projectile though. If it is so far that you will have a hard time hitting the head or neck then you should aim low. The vitals of a turkey are in between their thighs, not in the chest. If you aim in the center of a turjeys chest you run the risk of not only ruining the meat but allowing them to run/fly off and die somewhere else.

Little embarrassed to say I never thought of using a 22 mag, great idea.

I'd consider painting the barrel on a SS. Turkeys have sharp eyes and will notice that shiny wand waving around. (I've had the same problem on my stainless muzzleloader until I painted it.)

I had gotten my fall turkey with a .22LR. 40 yard shot perfectly in the spine as they walked away.
Guns don't kill people, it's mostly the bullets.
