Shooting steel case ammo in my XD 45 OK?
I saw some "deals" on Wolf or Tula (same thing) steel case .45 acp (230 gr.) ammo online. It costs about $16 for a box of 50. I use Wolf steel case .223 and 7.62x39 all the time on various rifles, but have never used their pistol caliber rounds in any of my handguns. What has your experience been? Thanks.

why not just go to walmart and buy federal ball ammo for $16.97???
No shipping hassle then.
But, i guess if you cant find it in stock nearby, you have no choice. Still I would stay away from the cheap-o steel case stuff if you can. Just my $.02 Wolf pistol ammo is the dirtiest I have ever shot (and I have shot a lot of different kinds).

Re: Shooting steel case ammo in my XD 45 OK?
I'm not familiar with the .45 wolf ammo, but I've shot a few hundred rounds of 9mm wolf out of my XD with no problems at all. I will agree that Wolf ammo is pretty dirty, but as long as you give the gun a reasonable clean after any heavy use it shouldn't be a problem. It's also pretty accurate from what I've read online and seen at the range. For target practice and general range shooting I'd recommend Wolf to anyone using a reliable gun.
If you found a good deal I wouldn't hesitate using Wolf, especially in an XD. From my experience with the 9mm XD it will take pretty much any ammo you feed it without issue.

Re: Shooting steel case ammo in my XD 45 OK?
No personal experience with it aside from shooting a few rounds out of my kahr.
I have heard people voice concerns about breaking extractors with steel cased ammo. An extractor can't be too expensive if you can install one yourself.
I have never seen it happen. Could be just internet chat.
Food for thoughtOpinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Re: Shooting steel case ammo in my XD 45 OK?
I shot a box out of a Sig of mine once, key word once. Besides being dirty, I could not hit paper.
I buy good guns, therefore I understand good ammo is not cheap.
Good Luck

I've shot quite a bit of it, and, like others stated, it is dirty, but I have never had any problems with it.

Re: Shooting steel case ammo in my XD 45 OK?
Ditto. A bunch of it in a well-tuned RemingtonRand, no prob, no FTF, FTE, or failure to go "BANG". Accurate enough for even serious practice, somewhat dirtier than most domestic ammo, but it is not like somebody dumped a tri-axle of coal ash into it - the dirt is no harder to clean than any other, and it responds to Hoppe's #9 just like Red Dot residue.
I'd rate it as "satisfactory, adequate for the task at hand".

Re: Shooting steel case ammo in my XD 45 OK?
I shoot them in various calibers(.223, 5.45x39, 9mm, .40s&w, .45acp) and I never had issue with them. They all fired and ejected okay. Little on dirty side, yes, but I think some of american made ammo is just as dirty. Regardlesly, I clean my guns each and every use, so Wolf being dirty is no deal killer to me.
I did, however, noticed that their quality controls aren't that good compared to some other non US manufacture(such as PMC, which is Korean?).
Here is pic of wolf .40S&W I recently bought. Imagine my surprise would have been if I did fire this round from my Beretta...

I have shot steel cased Wolf in .45, 9, and .223. Zero issues - reliability and accuracy were good. I would buy again and I DO buy it when I need it.
