    Thumbs up stevens 200

sometime ago i asked about a comparison between a weatherby vanguard and a cz527 in 223 cal. i was going to go with the cz , but due to financial decisions i couldn't go with either. so i ended up going with a stevens 200.what i paid for the rifle and a bushnell trophy doa scope paid less for the stevens than even a weatherbywithout scope. 329.00 for rifle and 90.00 for scope. rifle is lightweight [6.5 # alittle over7 with scope]very acurrate enclosed pics show that [thats a dime for comparison]. and for what i paid for the whole outfit i don't have to worry about nicks and scraches and then cringe over it. only drwbacks to this rifle are the trigger and the stock. trigger is pretty strong to pull will probaly going to go with after market drop in when i get the finances. and the stock is not finished as nice as a lot more expensever rifle. has some sharp edges and where the mold cametogether is a sharp line of plastic . nothing that some 1000 grit sandpaper can't handle.had it out to the range sat and was shootingit and my son had his savage model 10 predetor there in 223. he has over 1000.00 in that rig with the scope. and my stevens shot just about as good as his did

nice pic. one question though, and i'm asking here not picking on anything, but your front scope ring looks like it should slide forward half an inch so that it completely clears and is flush with the rifle. could affect ejection of rounds?

There is a simple fix for the trigger that reduces the pull significantly. I had mine to just under 3lbs.

Let me know if you need music wire. I've got a couple feet.

Edit: I didn't do all the trigger work as explained at http://www.varminthunters.com/tech/savage/ I just replaced the spring wire. It's a 2 min. job.

thanks for the tip on the music wire . will have to try that out. as far as the front ring goes , was told at the gunshop that would have to use the extended base to get enough movement on scope for adjustment due to the fact that savage actions can be pretty long even for a short action rifle. so far it hasn't raised any ejection problems.

I use a Weaver #402 base on every Savage/Stevens I have. It hangs over the receiver like Coalman's does. Not had any issues with it interfereing with cartridge ejection from .223 to .30-06.
