Re: 1911 Hammer Issue
I'm fairly new here too but I gunsmith for a living. I do lots of work on 1911's.
The best bet for the OP is to send the gun back to Springfield.
The hammer follow could be caused by a couple different things. The most likely cause ( I'm speculating because it's a used gun) is an improperly done trigger job.

Re: 1911 Hammer Issue
Just talked to SA earlier today. They said the sear was the problem. Apparently it was an aftermarket sear (and hammer, but the hammer was OK), so it wasn't covered by the warranty, but it only cost me $16.50. As far as I'm concerned, this was a very positive interaction with SA. I bought the gun used, it had already been tinkered with and not only did they honor the warranty even though the gun was used, but they didn't charge me any labor to do the work.
