Experience with a Scout Rifle, anyone?
Specifically, a Steyr Scout in 308? I'm reading Jeff Cooper's commentaries and he is gung-ho about this gun. Sure, he helped design it, so obviously there's going to be some bias there, but based on what I've read it's an excellent weapon, just rather expensive. The only rifle I own at the moment is an SKS, but I want to get a good medium-range rifle in a serious caliber; something that's great quality that will last forever and that I can use for hunting.
Obviously, they're not cheap (the Cooper package with scope, sling, and mags comes to about $2500), but as Cooper says, better to buy one excellent gun than 3-4 mediocre ones.
Thoughts on this?

Re: Experience with a Scout Rifle, anyone?
I've had occasion to handle and shoot several.
Pro:
The ones I've shot have been superbly accurate.
True to the concept it is wonderfully light weight.
Con:
The bipod isn't very useful being non adjustable and it skates on hard surfaces due to it's hard ended feet.
It has trouble detonating milsurp ammo with hard primers but there are fixes for that.
It is painful to top load.
Go here for everything you ever wanted to know about the steyr scout http://www.frfrogspad.com/.
IMHO it's a neat rifle and perfectly serviceable for its intended role but Steyr didn't really do the concept justice.
If you want the ultimate in a practical rifle, get a brockman http://www.brockmansrifles.com/bolt_action_prac.asp.
