Eliminating News moderation was the one thing that Dan did that I do like!

Everything else has been FUBAR, but I like the open News section. If someone is cluttering the section, just give them a healthy dose of neg rep!

this current mess is the very reason we had the news section moderated in the first place.

i just deleted about 8 duplicate, and triplicate threads..

fair warning, if you're too lazy to check if your "news" isn't already there... we just delete it, without warning.

    There's really two options here:

    1. Moderate all the news which creates a lot of work for moderators which results in slow response times which results in people just posting stuff elsewhere
    2. Don't moderate the news and get lots of duplicates which creates lots of work for moderators.

At least with the second option, things get posted in a timely manner. That was my logic when making the change anyway.

Additionally, I'd be open to the idea of infractions for duplicate postings in the news section specifically. Short bans may help people learn to check before posting.

Might I ask? What is the problem if a story is posted more than once?

While I agree with ^ to a point, I think the search engine leaves much to be desired, thread titles can be misleading at times, and topics could have been started in the lounge, general, or politics section instead of the news section.
If someone checks the news section only or even checks the new posts & it's already been buried due to heavy traffic throughout the site, things can easily be missed & reposted.
