Home defense fer a lil lady
OK so I have a Springfield X9 for my carry, we bought a Rossi 357 wheel for around the house (lol lil woman can't rack my slide) ((on the gun)). She liked the feel of the Rossi at the shop but once she shot it, it is not working out for her. Way too much kick. Anyone have any ideas of guns a small frame lady may be able to use for home defense other then my Walther 22 pistol? If anything were ever to happen, I want her to feel comfortable, not scared to defend her self with, and not afraid it's gonna end up hitting her in the head when she fires.

Has she tried .38 Special in the Rossi?

Re: Home defense fer a lil lady
I find it amazing that we test drive a car but having a person we want to protect for life we insist on selecting the device they will use?
357's are great; the additional weight will help absorb the recoil of the lighter powered .38 special. My wife is very small and she loves my 357, her 357 and the various .38s we have.
It is a function of ammo selection. The female of our species tends to have less hand strength. We all know guys have those fatal words waiting to come out all the time "hey ya'll watch this". Best bet is to have a selection in front of her and let her select.

How about an Ruger SR9 or a Taurus PT111 Mil pro 9mm. Both feel very good in the hand and hardly kick at all. They can be left loaded safely with one in the pipe, and they each have an additional slide safety that clicks off very quickly when you need it to.

Re: Home defense fer a lil lady
My wife is a fragile little gal & she uses a Ruger SP101 snubby. She likes it because it has some meat to it & I like that it doesn't have as much recoil for her as the lighter .357 wheel guns. Then again she likes my GP100 w/ 4 in bbl better than her snubby.
When we were shopping for her gun, she kept saying the other snubbys were all too light & felt like toys to her. She doesn't like semi autos at all. I'm not entirely sure if it's because of the ejecting shells or that she doesn't understand them as well as a wheel gun. The rule in this house is that you need to know how to clean & maintain your sidearm. I don't mind cleaning & oiling her gun but If anything ever happens to me I want her to be comfortable doing all that on her own.Let us never forget the sacrifice of those who have fought for us all.

she doesn't like semi autos... she'll blow thru as much .38 & .357 as I put in front of her at the range but she won't even shoot my Browning Buckmark .22 because of the ejecting shells.
However speaking of the P239... for a woman to conceal it's a good gun:
