Sportsmans Guide went too far on this one:
"...patterned after the real Russian Marakov sidearm that saw action during the dark days of WWII."Or did they misspell "Marakov" intentionally?

There is a good short article on the Makarov in the Feb. "Blue Press", Dillon's monthly add with the lovely women and cool reloading stuff.

I have the printed edition of the latest sportsmans guide and everything is spelled correctly, maybe it was an error while being entered online.

Re: Makarovs in W.W.II? Sportsman's Guide ad <eyeroll>
I think the heart of the comment is the "saw action in the dark days of WWII." quote. The Makarov was not used in WWII, not accepted as a Soviet Pistol until 1951 (I believe). The spelling was just icing on that misinformation cake.

Re: Makarovs in W.W.II? Sportsman's Guide ad <eyeroll>
The Sportsman's Guide has devolved into a typical retailer full of overpriced crap and illiterate proofreaders.
I remember when the catalogs were actually fun to read and when you didn't see a case of ammo advertised on the same page as a upside down tomato planter or set of white lace bed sheets.
The Makarov ad was probably just a cut and paste job from the manufacturers website, probably a Chinese company that only knows about WWII from vintage propaganda leaflets.
