gun inventory list?
I have been thinking of making a gun inventory list of all my firearms and wanted to get some opinions from others. I would most likley use excell spreedsheet and print and keep in a fire rated storage box away from the gun safe. My thinking is just in case of stolen or lost or for what ever reason I would need to have the model / serial number of a firearm that's in my collection. Is this a good idea or not? Thanks.

Re: gun inventory list?
I keep the sales receipts of my guns in a fire proof box. All of the information needed for an insurance claim is on the receipts.

Re: gun inventory list?
I have a folder in my safe. Each firearm has a piece of paper. Serial #, what I paid for it, and a picture (digital cameras are great).
I also have done the same thing with some of the wifes jewelry also.
It makes reporting theft a lot easier, and possibly getting your weapon back if it is recovered.
Overall, it is a good idea and I highly recommend it myself."Disperse you Rebels! Damn you! Throw down your Arms and Disperse!" British Major Pitcairn at Lexington April 19, 1775

Re: gun inventory list?
I keep an inventory on an excell spreadsheet and a flash drive. A copy of the spreadsheet is in a fireproof lockbox and the flash drive is put away.

Re: gun inventory list?
You could pick up one or more of the Personal Firearms Inventory books available from your elected officials, Representative, Senator, Sheriff, or possibly even your local police dept.
Make 2 copies, keep one handy and put the other in a secure place.

Re: gun inventory list?
I've got recipts/everything written down with actual pictures in the book, as well as the flash drive, and I have two copies. I figure if there is a question or I have to ID something, having it already printed out and visible is going to be far more useful than handing someone a flash drive.
It proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the property is yours. I'd also do the same for any accessories you have on the equipment.
